Google has confirmed that they will not be building a native ad-blocker into the Chrome browser after all. Google had made mention that they did not like the way that some publishers dealt with ads. They had even mentioned in the past that they would update their search algorithms to punish sites that utilize hostile takeover ads. Their was a belief that they might actually build an Ad-blocker into Chrome to help the overall user experience. This is something Apple is doing with iOS. However it would be a horrible business move for a company that makes about $20Billion in ad revenue per quarter. They did mention that the quality of ads needs to improve across the board and they will be working on a coalition to tackle this growing issue.

As said in your post, Google's main business are ads so they are not going to cut out their income source.

Like someone posted a reply on technobuffalo, it would be good to block the intrusive and data hogging ads. Those types of ads are the type to make you get an adblock and simply block all and be done with it.

They went on to say that it would also be nice to have a flagging system whereas when an ad got flagged x amount of times it would be pulled.
