Google messages doesn't always refresh till close reopen app

I will read a text some times then go to another app and then go back to Google messages it still looks unread

Have to close and open app to refresh the app

Is this a bug

Does this happen to anyone else

Do you have messages set to sync on your google account or do you manually sync?

When I get texts sometimes I need to close and open messages to refresh.

I don't sync sms messages
I have to close or go in and out of conversations for the conversations too level to refresh sometimes like it gets stuck

I have the issue right now I go into the conversation it's correct go up a level it says unread. If I close and open messages it clears

Sounds like you need to clear the app data and cache maybe... Are you able to save your SMS messages? Are you using any kind of backup for them?
