Google maps locks up phone

Anyone else experiencing this? It started after an update about a month or two ago. The only way to fix it is to remove the battery. Other gps apps like geobeagle and waze work fine so I dont think it's a hardware problem.

Try clearing data and cache in setting/applications/manage applications. Uninstall updates, If it will let you. Then reboot and open the app.

Thanks for the help. Since my original post I've discovered the problem. I had an animated wallpaper that was apparently fubar'ing Google maps. Can't remember the name but it was snow covered trees that would sway in the wind along with falling snow. When I switched to any other wallpaper Google maps worked fine. I've uninstalled the wallpaper. In the mean time I discovered another EXCELLENT GPS app called Waze. I'm mostly using that now, but Google maps is working again should I choose to go back to it .
