Good evening -- to those on the western hemisphere

As much as I wanted to avoid making my first post a plea for help, that's going to be the trend in which the conclusion of this post will follow. But before that, I'm here to say hello -- what's up -- how ya doing? -- etc. I finally got my hands on a Droid 2 and I adore it to the extent of agreeing that I I'll sooner drop my future child than drop this phone. It's day 2 and it has worked sufficiently well, impressively, and is definitely a phone that stands out. Now I'm not aware of how the format of an introduction post comes along but I'll just say that I'm in my beginner year of my programming major and a definite geek for gadgets. But since this is my first phone on this platform, I'm new...Probably in the same manner a dog runs into toothpaste made for its canine teeth. He gets the idea that it's supposed to go into the mouth but needs a bit of guidance to have it serve its purpose. Anyways on to the problem...Applications are downloading, the download process does show on my status bar/ navigation bar, but it disappears and the application is left uninstalled. Now this may be split into two post but I would like further permission to do so before spamming the boards. I'm glad to know that a community like this exist by the way.

I know how ya feel but with hands full, just drop the D2 and hang on to the kid--insurance can fix a busted dome for one a lot cheaper and with a lot less questions than the other.

What's happening when you download apps is normal, think of the notifications in that bar in the same manner pop-up notifications work for Windows off of the task bar there. Any apps you are downloading should show up mixed in with your stock/ pre-installed goodies, listed alphabetically. Failure to install an app should throw a flag window you have to acknowledge I believe.

And welcome to the forums. ;)

You do have a point about the insurance policy - definitely not equally applicable to a dropped child. Lol Anyways, what I ended up doing is updating the system. Welp. I didn't even know there was an update for 2.3 until I did everything I could to install these apps -- removing the batter, unmounting the sd card, etc. Lo and behold -- my apps were now installing the way it should be. Anyways, at the moment, I'm still undecided whether or not to root my phone -- I'm still in a debate between my Droid 2 and the other phones available for Verizon. But yeah, thank you for the warm greeting.
