Golf Card Users

I recently bought this to replace free caddy since it showed the course and bunkers but I have been very disappointed for a few reasons. One I can't seem to get any of the courses I download near me without it telling me to download GolfCardMGR which ki can't find. Second I can't figure out how to use the program. Can anyone point me in the appropriate direction please?

Thank you for the reply, I checked it out and decided the app wasn't for me. It was quite frustrating actually seeing how many courses they did not have information for. Supposedly this was supposed to be some really well known app but if that were the case you would think more people would have used their course manager and created more checkpoints. FreeCaddie seemed to have no problem with it. Some of the courses I downloaded were very well known courses as well.

Don't get me wrong I have no problem mapping out a golf course and in some instances I think it is kind of cool as you get to understand the course. But the other big issue I have with this app is that they give you the google map of the course and don't really tell you where the holes are. I have no idea where hole 1, 2, 3, etc are nor does most of their websites give you a detailed layout so it makes even mapping them impossible.

I give this app a 2 out of 5 because of the lack of tutorials and lack of information of the courses.

i have it, havent used it yet though cuz im in michigan, but ive played w/ it.

I noticed that it seems that you can actually add GPS points on a course using the phone itself. So if your home course isnt on there, you can add it yourself during a practice round or whatever. I would assume it stores them for you, but i dont know

I was also not impress with the number of courses they have mapped. Only a couple out of the 10 or so I tried. I did map on myself and it only took about 15 minutes but I don't think I would want to do that all the time.

Battety life was another problem. It lasts about 3 1/2 hours. Not bad if you can get 18 in that fast but most of the time it won't last long enough. may have to try an extended battery.

Really like the app but they need to get more courses mapped.

Exactly, I don't mind mapping the courses and contributing but it was hard to find an aerial view of the courses so that I knew which holes were what. It was very frustrating.

I finally got to try this app out while on vacation in Arizona. I was quite impressed.

Two of the four courses I played were already mapped. I thought the application was very easy to use, both as a score keeper, and a range finder. I really liked being able to find a distance from where I was standing to anywhere on the hole. The scorekeeping part was easy enough to use that I stopped picking up scorecards.

The other two courses were not mapped, but were available for download (providing only the distances from the tees - basically only a scorecard). I downloaded the mapping application, and mapped them based upon layouts I found on the course websites. This application was farily easy to use, but the UI design could use a little help. In any case, I was able to map the courses out in about 15 minutes, but you have to do this from your PC (not the phone). Once mapped, they were immediately available for download (within a minute or two of uploading).

As more people use this app, more courses will be mapped - I seriously doubt if the GolfCard people are mapping ANY courses. Which brought me to a question - the quaility of the mapping will have a LOT to do with how happy you are with the app on any given course - I wonder if its possible to edit an existing map to improve it... something Ill look into when I have more time.

edit : forgot to report - battery life could be a close call - I was only playing 9 holes at a time, and used 20-30% of my battery. I think it will do 18 holes readily, but Ill have the car charger ready when I get off the course. Im using a Moto Droid running 2.0.1

Yeah I loved the app design, however, was frustrated with how hard it was to map some courses. I couldn't believe how many courses did not display their course layout and which holes were where but there were quite a few like that! Only like 2 out of a bunch of courses that I checked were mapped and as you stated I guess I have to trust how well someone else mapped them out. I don't know why the people with golfcard don't just charge a couple dollars more and aid in mapping some of the courses themselves. It is worth it to me to have every course mapped and pay more money.

Just got it

Well, I just d/l it. I will use it this weekend and report back. I do hope I like it. I checked the courses near me and most are mapped. I used Inteligolf with my winmo, so i hope it's at least as good.

Battery Life

I have success conserving battery with the GolfCard application be going back from the range finder to the score card between shots. That way the GPS isn't going all the time. I also use Task Killer to turn of non-essential stuff. I wish I could turn off internet and phone use, but all there is is Airplane Mode which also turns off GPS.

I have been using this app for some time. as a new golfer, i have been able to map the course here in BFE, SD. but the way it keeps your score, clubs used, tee shots info, mapping your balls, you have to be an idiot not to like it. Just read the other forum saying we do not need an app killer for android, don't buy it tho. that will be the tru test for me. i get thru 18 holes in 4-4.5 hours. my battery has been an issue a couple of times. but i did not go out with a fully charged battery. when i do, no problems. very poweerfull tool for the Droid, Love it and would not go out w/o it. :o)

golfcard install

Can someone post the golfcard.apk file out here. I just recently rooted my droid and put 2.2 on and since then I can't find the install in the market.

Thanks,

Nick

GolfCard is broken

Three days ago, this was my favorite app on the droid. I bought it the first week I had the droid, and with rare exceptions, it performed flawlessly.

I updated it over the weekend, and while it looks sexy now, it no longer works. If you have it, dont update. If you dont own it, dont buy it (at least until fixed).

They dropped their association with oob golf, and the result is that we have lost all the course markers. The support site suggests just uploading your existing courses to the new system, but UPLOADING ISNT SUPPORTED IN THIS RELEASE! Pretty weak.

So... I thought I would try from the PC version of GolfCardMgr. Cant upload existing markers from there either. BAD NEWS.

So figure I can just mark my favorite courses again - ridiculous that I should have to do that again, but such is life. Marked the local 9 hole (glad I didnt do an 18), try to download it to the Droid - and the app crashes.

So... I have NO courses available that I can use, I cant migrate the old markings, I can make new markings, the app is doing nothing but consuming storage on my Droid.

Now I understand why Apple is such a pain in the tail about quality for their app store.

VERY VERY poor form, and the demise of my favorite app.

If this is true, they totally killed this app. I have used it for 4-5 months and it has been flawless. When I saw them switch to the drawing view, I got excited. I haven't used it since the update last week. I just cannot believe they would kill such a fine product. I'll use it tomorrow and see.
