Go Daddy email sync on Samsung Note 3

Help, I've searched and tried, but cannot fix this issue.

Approximately one week after OS upgrade, default email stopped pulling new emails from GoDaddy account.
Things I've done:
pulled battery...Safe Mode... recreated account... checked sync is on...double checked server and port settings (never changed them)... spent hour on line with Verizon support (no help)... Installed K-9 (with wi-fi off)

End result, every time I create an account with either default mail or K-9, it will download 9-15 of my oldest emails only (it varies each time)

my wife has a Samsung Galaxy 3 using same email settings to same (Go Daddy) servers. hers works fine.

Hmmm, so I got lucky... on the K-9 client there was a message "-ERR unable to open that me"
So, on a fluke I pulled up web mail on pc, checked the next message (from a year ago) that should download next. An email with some small pics attached that had been on my phone previously. delete and purge on PC, resync phone and BAM! it works on both email clients... what a pain
So, if anyone has a similar issue, at least K-9 gives you some hint of an error.
