gmail sync question

Email seems to sync at random times. There are times I get email every 30 minutes or so and then it can go hours without any emails sent to phone. I've not been able to find way to correct this. I can't locate this control on phone. I've read that one can control frequency phone syncs with email but haven't found setting. Thanks in advance.

Google"pushes" emails to your phone. All sync does is sync your box to the cloud box. I've had this problem before with mail and google voice, sometimes pushes are instant and sometimes they take hours.
