Gmail accounts don't update in a timely manner

My Gmail accounts om my Droid2 are not updating in a timely manner. If I go in to "All", it shows an unread email, but I can't get to it. If I look at Inbox, this new unread email is not there. If I log in to my Gmail account on my laptop, it's there and it's no problem. What gives?
