Glad beta is out for swype....

Obviously the folks at Swype knew when their leaked version was set to expire and took preventive action to quell the uprising among the pitchfork wielding villagers.

To get the "beta" version of Swype, however, you'll have to register with Swype and download through their website. No word on whether the beta will "expire" as well. And no word how many users they'll "accept" as beta testers.

I suspect that Swype is trying to get their arms around just how big an "accidental" user base they're facing among Android folks and what to do about them. For those addicted to Swype, the news is relatively good. For those who want to avoid the entire problem, SlideIt or Shapewriter are viable alternatives.

BTW, it appears that Swype is facing a significant challenge for Android users. According to their website they're trying to assure that their keyboard works well with virtually any software users might have on their devices. That is apparently a major challenge when it comes to the infinite number of combinations users may have downloaded for their android devices. And that explains their reluctance to sell their software directly to end-users.
