From what I understand, Pro users on Gingerbread 2.3 version 4.6.8 (latest OTA update) have had success rooting their Pro using Pete's Motorola Tools. It does require downloading software to your computer and connecting the Pro via usb to obtain root.

YES...YES...YES!!! Pete's Tools did it with my 2.3.3 OTA GB Droid Pro.
I had to do it 2 times and in USB Charge mode...it appeared to have removed the super updated superuser binaries and used the older ones...then the wireless tether started working again and prompted for root!
Verizon knows that I'm trying to use tethering and they've hijacked the homepage of my test clients.
Takes me to the screen to sign up for Mobile Broadband connect for my account...this sucks :icon_evil:

Wireless Tether APK is what they're flagging and redirecting.
Barnacle worked just fine though my wireless encryption is only WEP now...I used to have WPA2, etc with Froyo root.
