Gallery problem with phone contacts

Hi everyone, I just got my first android phone (LG Vortex) and am stuck when associating photos with phone contacts. Everything was going fine until the Gallery froze and I can't display the photos when I am in the phone editing mode. Otherwise, just looking at the gallery, I have no problem in viewing all the pics. Any help will be appreciated.

Experimenting with the phone, I am now locked up in the normal Gallery mode. When I swype my finger over the pic icon, the photos do not open up.
