Frozen at Boot Animation

My Droid X boots to the motorola M screen, then flashes 'Droid' before starting the red eye animation. After thirty seconds the red eye animation freezes, and then it cycles back to 'Droid' and restarts the red eye animation. It will continue to loop like this indefinitely until a battery pull.

Config: Stock. Lots of apps. Nothing new in the week before this problem.

It will boot into recovery mode, but I have not tried a hard reset because I'd like to avoid losing pictures and video. Does anyone know where are pictures stored by default? Are they stored on the SD card? Will they be erased by a hard reset?

Thanks for the help.

They're stored on the on the SD card and will be untouched. You'll lose apps and contacts though but they should be syncd by Google.

Thanks man. Apps I can reload and contacts are all floating in the cloud, but couldn't find a clear answer on where pics and vids are stored and whether they would be wiped.

Trying a hard reset now.
