Froyo Checking for available update please wait

I've been trying for what seems like forever and that's the only message that I get "Checking for available update please wait." Anyone seeing the same thing? I know they are probably getting hammered right now, but can I leave this running like this?

Oh and if this is a double post so sorry, I tried searching.

Ah! finally, had to pull the battery but all is well now!
