I read somewhere that rooted phones can use the mobile hotspot feature that most come with, without Verizon knowing about it. I've also however heard that sometimes it still gets back to the carrier and they cancel your service. I've been using my tethering in very small doses because I'm not sure if big red is monitoring me. If they aren't I want to take full advantage of the tethering feature. Any answers???

They can terminate your service for tethering, but I have yet to see it happen.

I know pretty much all custom roms come with tethering widgets preinstalled on them for that reason.... I really hope they don't shut me down haha.

Take full advantage, I've tethered a couple of gb's over the lifetime of my phone, and as long as you don't start hitting ridiculous amounts of data every month then you should be fine. And I don't think I've seen anyone thats been terminated for tethering yet.

I tether myself, but I'm usually around a little over 2gb a month, spiked up to 4gb or 5 gb a couple times, but nothing much really. If they do find out, however they do, they can terminate your contract.
