To all Droid front pocket users: I found this interesting article on the droid radiation levels.

LINK TAKEN DOWN DUE TO BROWSER HIJACKING!!

Does this information make you nervous about the proximity to ur....um, you know? Does anyone else feel concerned about damage to sperm counts or any other types of "junk" damage? I definelty do, and lately I take it out of my pocket whenever I am not walking or transporting it anywhere. Do you guys think I am being paranoid? And I definetly won't be using one of those holsters so no need for "use a holster" replies.

I didn't bother to read the article because I question anything that has the author listed as "A Staff Writer."

Anybody can put anything on the internet. Show me something from a credible media outlet and then we can talk.

To answer the OP's question, no, I have no concern what so ever. :)

thought about that.. but i still find myself pocketing the droid. i guess life is too short (or i don't anticipate living very long) to worry about every little thing.. for me, i concentrate on the immediate dangers.. i wear a helmet when longboarding, i carry a big stick when i go feed the neighbor's dogs, etc..

If those phones emitted unsafe levels of radiation, they would have never passed testing and wouldn't be on the market today. They're fine.

And wasn't there a foreign study recently that actually found no link between cancer/tumors/whatever and cell radiation? I remember reading it, and I'm sure someone else can find a link if they want.

My boys are just fine down there. And they've got a Droid to... eheh... hang with. :rofl3:

I can't say that it worries me too much... I mean they are still within limits, they are just pushing it.
I don't carry the phone in a pant pocket that much anyway since I keep it in a leather sleeve its a little bulky for the pocket, a jacket pocket works for me.

I wouldn't count on the government or the manufacturers to keep you safe, especially from something so transparent.

That being said, I agree with an earlier poster....I focus on short term things that I know are true threats to my health.

I think this radiation is only when the call is being made anyways, so while its in your pocket it shouldn't be any trouble. Only when its next to your head, which is the better of the two scenarios IMO...

I guess being a bluetooth user with you phone in your pocket could be of some concern maybe. I am not concerned about the cancers more low sperm counts or other male functioning.

A couple good sites for reference information:

The FCC mandated limit for SAR (specific absorption rate) is 1.6w/kg. The Droid is on the higher end for most cell phones - 1.49w/kg when held next to the head and 1.5w/kg when worn on the body.

It's important to keep in mind that these are *maximum* levels. The amount of radiation produced by your phone is directly related to how much power is being provided to the wireless radio. If you have a stronger signal, the radio will use less power to transmit and therefore produce less radiation. Higher bars = less radiation; lower bars = more radiation (up to the stated max).

The article says that these phones "push the limits" but fails to address the fact that the imposed limit has been deemed completely safe. The Droid and Nexus aren't any higher than any other smartphones on the market and the amount of radiation coming off your cell phone is likely negligible compared to what we are bombarded with from myriad other sources.

Also, you *will* be exposed to radiation from this phone when you are not on a call. Since the Droid is (nearly) constantly sending/receiving signals the wireless radios are broadcasting frequently, even when not on a call.

Also a couple of the comments on the article are interesting, specifically the one about non-ionizing radiation.

haha i never beleived any of that stuff they've been saying that kinda stuff since the day of mobile car phones.

and I dont want kids anyways so I'm clear either way haha

This is the funniest discussion I have read yet, I love it needed a laugh.

We should ask Johnnie Cochran if cell phones are bad for you..... ???

Oh wait he died....

Report from cancer website:

http://www.cancer.gov/cancertopics/factsheet/Risk/cellphones

Conclusion: No facts have been found to support cancer is caused by cell phone usage. You probably get more exposure to harmful radiation walking through your office full of PC's and electronic equipment... although that is an entirely different type of radiation.
