Is there a way to flash 4.0.4 without rooting? Maybe a dumb question, but I'm still new to this.

Yes once the phone is unlocked (but not rooted) you can flash the leaked 4.0.4 update. Thread around here someplace with the download and discussion.

Here it is: http://www.droidforums.net/forum/galaxy-nexus-general-discussions/196892-4-0-4-update-zip.html

Unlock and flash the download in the OP that thread. Works perfectly.

One more Q. In the spirit of doing enough research. Will I still be able to get official ota updates after doing this?

You can get the official ota's as long as you stay stock 4.0.4 if you flash to a custom rom then you wont.

Yes but the recover must be stock (and stock ROM) most likely to get a future OTA. You can always flash back to stock recovery later from clockworkmod recovery
