Starting December 19th Samsung will begin to send out an update that will prevent you from charging your Galaxy Note 7. Once your phone finally runs out of the juice from its last charge you will no longer be able to use the device. It will essentially be a brick, paper weight, door jam... you get the picture. Samsung has already updated many Galaxy Note 7 devices to only allow for a 70% charge. Those updates also include a change to the battery indicator.

There is now a custom kernel that takes away charging restrictions on the Galaxy Note 7. If you want your Note 7 to work after December 19th you will need to flash the custom kernel. I actually won't link to the kernel here as I think it would be quite irresponsible to continue to go on using the Note 7 with the potential for it to catch fire at any moment. If you must you can easily find what you need.

OK I have to say that was awesome. No really.

First you have a guy who looked stoned out of his mind wearing an oven mitt to use a phone. Let's not take into the fact his title is "high on Android".

I'm convinced now. If you are willing to go through all that to use your phone then more power to you.

From what I understand it only kills charging capabilities, doesn't brick.

It's stated on the Samsung website that the update disables the ability to use the phone as a mobile device... or something like that...

If you have a phone that can't be charged and is useless....isn't that a brick?

I'm surprised this topic is even allowed! There's no real open mindedness here except on xda.

I agree, It appears that they keep posting Note things here so people can trash it, would be nice if they left well enough alone already. Let it go quietly.

I saw an article that said they will prevent the phone from connecting to WiFi, Bluetooth, and mobile networks as well. That's as good as a brick to me.
