Facebook for Android just came out with a pretty major update. The UI has been vastly improved and several new features make it easier to use on a mobile device now. Here's a quote from the Facebook Blog page with some details:

  • Photos get better = Photos and albums are up to two times faster than the previous Android app. It's also easier to share photos, view comments and edit captions on the go.
  • Messages on top = Your messages and notifications are now at the top of your screen. You can respond to friends and stay updated without leaving the page you're on.
  • Menu on the side = You can quickly access your News Feed, Groups, games and apps from the new left-hand menu. The features you use most are now at your fingertips.
These changes look to make updating your Facebook on your mobile device much easier. You can grab the update at the Android Market source link below, then share your thoughts in the forum.

Hmmm...look for the update later. Just by that screenshot it's changed big time

It looks good, but i havent been on facebook in months. i guess this overhaul will go unused by me. :D im glad they did it though. Good to know if i wanted to use it its new and improved.

I got the update last night and the first thing it did was force close on my Bionic. Power the phone off, restart and try again. Another force close. Pulled the battery with phone on and it worked. It started with a tutorial, but it didn't load that well last night. Today is the first time I used it.

Looks good, but it takes a little getting used to.

What I'm wondering is why the option to sync Facebook accounts to the RAZR is still missing? You'd think with a major update they could get that going?

I really like the new UI, it's pretty slick looking. I have had no issues with it since I got the update last night. And yes people still use Facebook, google+ is already dying, if not already dead. I am sure some people use g+ regularly but none of my friends on it have posted in months.

I saw it was different today but I thought it was the HTC version and some special sense version. It is closer to the regular pc app.

Downloading it now, let's hope they get the notifications fixed on it this time. Notifications on Android's FB have always been hit or miss... mostly miss.... for me. Never had any issues on Blackberry's app and the iPhone app.

I don't think notifications on Android have EVER worked. If you look at the settings, it only has notification options for messages, friend requests and invites. Nothing about regular notifications for comments, posts, etc. Some people say they get push notifications for every single notification on their phone. Seems completely random. I've been using this FB app for two years and not once have I received a notification. I have to rely on emails for that. Some people have said that signing in to Facebook with a Blackberry device adds a special app permission in the FB settings which allows you to get push notifications on your Android device. Some say it works, some say it doesn't. I can't find anybody for the life of me with a Blackberry lol. Even cell phone retailers don't have any working BB display models.
