Error Message when using Applications

I own a Droid X2. Very often (some more than others) applications shut down when I try to use them when I am on my phone. If it helps the phone does run very slow at times as well. The error message reads, for example, "The application Facebook (process com.facebook.android) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again". This will happen repeatedly for some apps and makes them basically un-usable. Does anyone have any idea what this could be? Any help would be appreciated.

I don't make this suggestion lightly or very often but because of the number of issues you're having you may want to consider doing a factory reset and starting over. Make certain you have a copy of the media, photos etc., stored somewhere else as everything will go away back to new.
