Eris: apps in downloading queue but never download?

Just got an Eris today. I have about 9 apps in the downloading queue, but they aren't actually downloading, and I'm at a loss to understand why not.

I even turned on WiFi to ensure a good, quick connection speed.

I can access the Market without any problem (obviously).

Any ideas what's going on?

I had no such problem with the Droid (my friend has it).

Is there something I need to toggle "on" that's no currently set?

Verizon Eris

Having the same problem with my Eris. Says the app is downloading but never does. Why is this happening?
