Hi, this is my first day with a Droid phone and I am excited, but my boss who got one today as well needs larger font overall throughout the operating system. Even the nextel blackberry, which sucks has a way to increase font overall. Does anyone know if it is possible with the Droid?

Well unfortunately the only way i know how to increase the font size is to root your phone. Then you can modify settings in build.prop to make the screen icons and text bigger. Other then that, thats the one thing droid doesnt. At least as far as im aware.

How do I "root" my phone? What are the potential disadvantages to doing so or negative reprocussions?

Well im going to assume you have the Moto Droid. Rooting your phone is like jailbreaking an ipod if you know what that is haha. Basically what your doing is to modify everything in your phone and customize to have it look and operate how you want it. The only drawbacks is that it voids your warranty. However you can return it to the same way it was before so i doubt verizon could even tell. Anyways check this link out its very helpful. I would also bookmark the site its great for news. Root help

Thanks for the quick response. I do have a moto droid, but it is the I1 through Nextel. They only support an older version of the os. I asked Nextel if that can be updated and they said that their model will only support firmware version 1.5. Is that really possible that I cannot update my os to the latest version? The only sticking point I can see is that this is the only model made to handle the "direct connect" feature. Thoughts?

Well im honestly not even sure, ive never had an android phone with firmware lower then 2.0.1. Best bet would be to head on over to that site i gave you and ask around and search through guides on the site. I would say you could but they would know better then me. Theres a chat button at the bottom when you go there to talk live with ppl that can help.
