Encrypted my s5... now I can only use passwords to unlock screen??

Try going into setting>>security>>phone administrators. Uncheck anything that's checked.

Then go back into settings>>security scroll down and tap on Clear Credentials.

I had a similar problem where I couldn't turn off the fingerprint scanner and this sequence fixed it. Hopefully, it'll work for you.
Had same problem go to quick settings and press lock screen hope this helps it did for me
 
(If you have password memorized. Change pasword to have number in it.)
1. Decryption. (Patience)
2. Restart. (Patience)
3. Patience. (Patience)
4. Lock screen settings
