Enable Bluetooth during a call?

I did some searching and couldn't find this so...
Lets say I take a call via the handset (BT not enabled), and then I want to switch to my BT earpiece (usually because I'm driving and WA state will give you a nice fat ticket for holding a phone to your ear while driving). I go to the home screen while on the call and click on the power widget to activae bluetooth, but it won't activate the BT transmitter until the call is over. Any thoughts?

i did this today while on a conf call. it worked just like it should for me. i even had to pair the headset during the call.

im on jrummys 4.0.6(i think thats what its labeled)

I just tried it again with my T-Mo work phone callling my droid and, after a short delay, it did enable BT. Maybe it's one of those strange things that only happens when my wife calls - especially while i'm driving.
