email app stopped working

After working just fine for several weeks email on my Galaxy Fascinate stopped working. The twirling icon just keeps twirling but no email is downloaded. Sent emails just sit in the Outbox. The accounts work just fine on Outlook on my desktop.

Any ideas?

The problem was solved by the universal cure-all: turning the phone off & back on (aka reboot).

Perhaps you can answer another question for me. Is there a way of deleting old emails other than one-by-one? For example, on my old Blackberry there was a "delete before" feature. Anything similar for Android phones?
