DroidX - Usage in Europe

We will be traveling to Europe next month (UK, France, Spain). Will we be able to utilize the DriodX for phone calls while traveling? My guess is NO but I'd like to confirm. Also, I am assuming that if we are in a wifi hotspot, I will be able to utilize G-mail without incurring data usage fees? Any advice on how to avoid data usage while traveling would be apprecated. Thanks in advance

if you can use the data network you should be able to use the cell network, but unless you have a plan that allows for international you would probably see some huge roaming fees. Best bet is to set your phone to use wifi only while you are there and use email. You can also use google voice to handle your voicemail as well so then you can use visual vmail off the wifi data usage to get/check your messages. If you really want to be fancy about it, setup your phone to use SIP so you can do voice over IP to call in/out when you are on a wifi network.

put phone in plane mode and turn on wifi.
