Droid x purchase quick question

Hi Guys...I have a Droid now...if I purchase a Droid X....the Verizon CS rep told me I have to redownload all my apps and PAY again for the apps I already paid for...IS that true????

also, if I do buy a new X.....what would I do with the old droid if I want to sell it...just uninstall all the apps and I can keep it rooted?? The person that buys it will not have any problems getting his number "ported" on it

Thanks for the help!!!!

Its true that you have to re download all free apps, but you don't have to buy all your paid apps. They are tied to your google account.

mmmmmmmmmm even verizon tech support told me I have to pay for them again.....but if it is true that they are tied to my google account..what is to stop me from signing on my google account on soneone else's droid and download all the paid apps on his phone???

There are programs the back up all your apps to the SD card. You can then copy the file onto your computer. When you get the new phone just add the app that you used to back up and put the file on your SD card. You can install from your SD card. I have not tried with payed apps only free. Try AppBrain it allows you to back up and then install from the market not the SD card. Not sure if it works between phones only used when rooting. The app that backs up to SD card is called OntheFlyBackup.

hope this helps

Well, i can assure you the techs that told you that were incorrect. When you go into market and hit menu > downloads, it will list apps you have bought as "purchased" and you can redownload again at no charge.

My wife had to exchange her Moto Droid a few months back (minor issue but it was warranty), she had paid apps on the phone. When she got the replacement Droid it was bare...no free or paid Marketplace apps installed. We set up the replacement Droid with her Google account and were able to reload all apps just as listed above by going to Marketplace and selecting Download. I think you will be OK with the exchange but uninstall the apps from the original phone before attempting this, I am not sure if there are any mechanisms to track apps from one account to the next.

As long as you use the same Gmail account, Your paid apps will be available to you.
This needs to be the primary Gmail account.

Thanks....and if I wanted to sell it...all I have to do is uninstall my paid apps (I guess I can leave the free ones) and then I can sell the phone with no worries? also..how would I get rid of my contacts?

thanks...

And as someone who just activated his X, coming from Droid, i can tell you it works, there's no double charge, and you don't have to uninstall the apps from your previous device. Enjoy!

To remove your contacts log in on a computer with your gmail account and go to the contacts there. There is an option with all of your contacts and you can select them and delete them.

Factory reset it and don't sign in to your account when it reboots. Good to go.
