Droid X -- pictures inserted in Text msgs not orientated correctly

It doesn't seem to make any difference whether I insert the picture from the gallery or take the picture specifically for the Text message, all the portrait orientation pictures are inserted in the landscape mode. How can I correct this? Thanks.
