Droid newbe needs help!

Hi guys....I just got a droid and can't seem to figure this one out. When I get a new email and/or text message it doesn't show up in the icon on the homepage...only at the top. When I get the message I don't know whether it is a text or which email (I have 2) it came from.
When I had my blackberry it show a star on the icon of which one has a message waiting.

Help help would be greatly appreciated!

I have the Droid A855 which I believe is the original droid (?)

It's something that you'll have to get used to. Just drag down the notification bar and press on the notification and it will being up the message, be it email or text.

I believe there is an option for what you are asking if you use launcher pro.

stop text messgages

Can anyone tell me how to stop my text messages from coming thru that was stock on phone? I added a new app (Handcent) and unable to stop my text messages from duplicating. I am told NOT to uninstall it. Any suggestions? thank you!

Open the stock messaging app and hit the menu button and go in to settings and turn off notifications.
