Droid internet connection problems

I just bought a Droid and within 2 days had racked up almost 20 hours of data usage without even using the phone. The phone was automatically detecting and connecting to any wifi or mobile broadband signal even when the phone was not in use. When I got my Verizon bill there were over $200 worth of data charges. Has this happened to anyone else? How can this be prevented?

Sorry, but what you're describing could only happen if you were out of the U.S. You have an unlimited data plan if you have a Droid. You pay 30.00 a month for this.

I suggest you call Verizon and see why this error occurred.

Yes, Verizon did screw up and neglect to add the $30 data package onto my plan. They are fixing that now. However, I am in the US and according to my bill the connection times were during hours when I was either sleeping or at work and the phone was off.
