Droid and GMail

Does anyone know how the Droid connects to GMail? IMAP? Does it use SSL?

I could not find any settings on the phone that relate to the connection type for the GMail app but could find them for the regular Email app.

I could not get a good answer to this one from Verizon or Motorola. Since Google offers free IMAP I set up my phone to use that so that I could ensure that I was using SSL.

PS - Anyone else feel like Motorola tech support is not so knowledgeable about the Droid?

All you should need to do is sync your phone to gmail. It's a google phone everything happens automatically. Settings/accounts & sync, make sure your gmail and auto sync is on.

I'm 99% sure the GMail app uses SSL, and 100% sure it's IMAP.
