droid 4 losing root after update

also if you lost root you can use the actual motofail program written for it. I was unable to re root my phone after the update it changed some of the folder permissions and i could have chmoded them but i got lazy so I just went and used the motofail program. but OTA voodoo root keeper will allow you to back up your root before a new ota update

My advice:

1. Factory reset
2. Flash fastboot files
3. Apply update
4. Root with Droid 4 Utility

The Droid 4 Utility will work!!! You might have to repeat it 3 or 4 times, but it will take and verify with RootChecker.

It's real, the fastboot files are out!

It has begun!!!

Thank you Shang Tsung. It has begun!!!

Or you can run motofail once...

I seem to recall the D4 utility working great when I first got my phone, but after the update it was not cooperative. I advise using the motofail exploit directly.
