droid 1 won't charge with hot battery

hi, I charged my droid 1 over night as usual. However, when I woke up, I found that my droid 1 only charged up to 50% and my battery was, for some reason, up to 68 degrees. Does anybody know why this is happening? Right now, i just shut down my phone and removed the battery so it can cool down.
