Download new e-mails without synchronizing

Does anyone know if it is possible to configure the Droid to download new e-mails from my exchange server, BUT NOT synchronize the mailbox. I have numerous e-mails that I keep in my mailbox for followup, but don't want them to keep downloading to my Droid if I've alreading read them.

Any time you post, please indicate what app you're using. I'm assuming you mean in reference to the stock email app?

If you have ActiveSync you shouldn't "keep downloading" them. Might help to clarify how you're connected to your Exchange server as well since there are several possibilities...
