DL'ed apps saving to phone instead of mem card?

I thought all the apps were supposed to save to the memory card not the phones memory. Last night an icon showed up on the top bar saying that phone memory was almost full or something to that affect. When I checked the memory it shows the memory card is completely empty and the phones memory is almost used up.

How do I go about switching apps to the card if that is possible?

Sorry, they are stored on the phones memory not the SD card. Maybe some other time, just not now.
