Heard about this helping battery life. I absolutely need to get email on this phone all day long. what does this exactly stop from running ?

m. Disablealways-on mobile data– go to settings/wireless & networks/mobile networks, uncheck Enable always-on mobile data, you will still receive emails, texts, and phone calls, as well as internet usage, but it may cause connectivity problems in some third party apps (use manual refresh feature when opening apps to update online data)

It turns data off after a certain period.. maybe 10-15 minutes. When you turn the screen on, the data connection re-establishes. It saves a HUGE amount of battery. However if you're depending on push notifications and emails coming through right away, dont use this option because you wont get that stuff until you turn the screen on.

I disabled it, lets hope it helps battery life!

I disabled it day 1 after seeing it recommended on an Android battery life thread. I got my TBolt the last week in March and so far it has NEVER died on me during the day and I usually have it unplugged from 7:30AM to 11PM. I do use Phone Info to keep it on 3g only unless I need to download something or stream video.

My phone always lasts all day as well, I unplug it around 7:30 and it too lasts until 11PM ranging from 20-40% remaining.

I use Juice Defender, free version and I think when off charger it does same thing and works real well, on extended battery I get 33 hrs out of one charge.

I think that is where Juice Defender does work differently, turns off but emails seem to come in all day.

I don't think I've ever even enabled "always on mobile data" and I've always gotten all my push notifications.

As for juice defender, I've heard more evidence that it uses more battery. This is because instead of just staying connected to data (3g, 4G, or WiFi) it has to keep searching for a network again each time its "allowed" connect. I think ppl who say it improved with the app are experiencing the placebo effect.

A good undervolted kernel such as bamf or leankernel extreme does WONDERS! Especially with the new radio!

As I understand it, it just won't allow you to connect to mobile data (4g, 3g, 1x) while connected to WiFi. It certainly doesn't cut you off from all data after 15 minutes in standby...

I'm not sure of the time delay, but since I enabled it I noticed that if I don't use my phone for a while, say at least 30-60 minutes, when I wake it up there is no data connection, but within 1-2 seconds it re-establishes. This leads me to believe that after a certain time period, perhaps just 15 minutes, it disables all data until you either wake your phone or your phone is scheduled to check for e-mail.

I used to use tasker to kill data when the screen is off, but often times I will be doing something such as uploading a photo to facebook, and once I click upload I turn off the display of my phone and put it in my pocket, which caused the upload to fail since the data was cut off. I like this much better! I lasted 15 hours yesterday with 67% battery life left.

The amount of battery used when searching for a signal is minimal. If the phone were constantly searching whenever data is turned off, there would be some truth to what you claim. I use green power and my wife uses battery fu, which are applications similar to juice defender and I can assure you we aren't experiencing a placebo effect.
