Differences between CM7 and Liberty 0.8?

integrate

New Member
Has anyone been able to see any discernible differences between CM7 and Liberty 0.8?

Liberty is already really fast and I don't see if there would be any major benefit into flashing CM7...

I have noticed a big difference, just in terms of customizability. Which is big for me. The rom is pretty stable. Not as fully functional as liberty but way more customizable. Battery life im still testing so.. we will see about that. But id say give CM a shot. Go check out the original cm thread that was posted here last night that starts with [BETA ROM]. I posted what ive found to be of note in CM7 and from that, you can decide. But i feel that its worth it.

Is CM7 any faster than Liberty? Is battery life comparable?

once they get it working I will be switching over from APex. I loved cm7 on my htc eris and was sad when I got my Droid X and learned cm7 wasn't available because of the locked bootloader.

Go Bruins.

Ill try to be as unbiased as possible. Cm7 on the dx is an amazing feat and will probably get better, however right now I don't feel as though there are any improvements except customization over anything we have right now for gingerbread. In fact I felt as if my phone wasn't as responsive as it is with liberty gb or apex gb. Just my two cents.

The great thing about CM7 is it is completely built from AOSP. All of the prior DX roms had to be in some way built from the stock ROM due to the bootloader locking ROM devs out of certain parts of the system, but with the 2nd init method a full build ROM like cyanogen that replaces all of the system can be install. Since it isn't based off of the stock ROM, there is literally no trace of Blur left in the system and all you get is sweet sweet tweaked AOSP with all the nice customizations in CM7 that are only possible with a full system replacement ROM

So after a some major going back and forth between Liberty GB v.08 and trying out CM7, I decided to take the leap to CM7.

Totally worth it.

But only because of my needs.

I loved Liberty as it seemed to be a TAD bit more responsive than CM7 but it wasn't enough to make me miss the difference. What blew me away was the customization options for CM7. SOOOO many little features that really allows me to make my phone the way I want it and for that, I'm glad I did it.

Can't boot to recovery?

So once CM7 is installed. We can't boot into recovery or we'll have to SBF? Just curious how we're supposed to do nandroids or apply patches? Or maybe I'm just missing something...

Edit: Ah, sorry, I misread the post... there's an option within CM. Now I feel sheepish...

I liked all the Cyanogen based ROMs on my old D1, and I would happily flash it on my DX, though I am still kinda hooked on Liberty.

I love AOSP though and I would rather have something based off AOSP. I guess the only thing keeping me from doing it is that I would want the newer kernel I think, though I'm not sure if it makes any difference at all.

Lol. Yes. You have to use ROM manager from clockwork.

^Once you flash clockwork from rom manager for the first time, you no longer need to access rom manager in order to reboot to recovery. You simply hold down the power button, select reboot, and you get 3 options, restart, recovery and bootloader.

Also, CM7 takes customization to another level. You could never have the power controls available in the notification dropdown with liberty or apex, a transparent app drawer, notification bar at the bottom of the screen as opposed to the top etc...
Aside from the stock motorola kernel, we're getting much of the essence that the og droid had and essentially got me hooked on android to begin with. It's a win for all dev's because they can now work straight from aosp as opposed to the blur elements of previous. now hopefully someone steps up and does a miui port.
