Deleting Email

Sure this is an easy question but I just got my Incredible 2.
Gmail is set up. How do i delete an email from the Droid?

Scroll with finger to bottom hit trash can icon!

i dont have trash can icon doing either action.
but since my post i discovered I tap and hold the email and it comes up with a menu with an option to delete.
