Defragment?

Do we need to defrag these units. If so how is it done?
I download,test or play with apps then uninstall a lot of them. Just windering if this needs to be cleaned up from time to time.

There are others on here that know the workings of the os, but from what I've learned, you can't apply Windows-type thinking to android.

It isnt just android, but primarily the sd card file system. You generally will never have to or need to defrag because it stores and accesses like volatile ram.

Essentially though, if you think your card is acting up i guess backing up your card and performing a format could be analogous to a defragment...

OK, what I will do is just copy everything on the SD card to a folder on my computer and then erase everything on the SD card and copy it back from the computer. That should work similar to defrag.

I am more concerned about internal memory though as that is where all the apps and data go. I think I will just restore from my latest bootstrapper backup from time to time.

This is not Microsoft. Defrag is not necessary. I know it's hard but you got to think of it as a whole different OS and not apply Windows thinking to your Android phone. And If I were you I wouldn't try pulling that little trick with the bootstraps, it may backfire on you.

What i said was, if you think your card is giving you problems try reformatting it....

Technically your file directories will be all over the place anyway you do it, restore, format, even a new card. It's just how flash memory is. Dont worry about it unless you get read errors, file loss, anything that points to the card becoming faulty.

A few weeks ago I defraged the SD card on my phone through defraggler from piriform. I set up a front ended custom defrag just to see what happened; didn't notice any difference but I wouldn't recommend doing it through windows file system.

A defrag is useless with flash memory, which is what all phones use. If you're interested in why you can probably find out by doing a google search, I'm not very good at explaining it. Simply put, flash memory doesn't get fragmented like a hard drive does.
