Data Roaming Keeps Turning Off

I live in an area that does not have native Verizon coverage, so I have to have Data Roaming turned on to get emails/etc. This is how I have used my Droid 1 for almost 2 years now and I have had zero problems no matter what rom (custom or OEM) I was running.

Today I got my Droid 3. I had it delivered to my work which is in a native Verizon network. I got it activated and all was good. Once I transitioned from the Verizon network to the partner network, however, my data roaming turned itself off. Every time I turn it on, it turns itself back off within a minute or two. This is REALLY annoying!

Does anyone have any ideas?

I know I'm not the only person having this issue. I found a few others in a basic Google search.

Am I really the only one on this forum though?

Look under settings -> Battery and Data Manager -> Data Delivery -> Put a check on "Connect to data services when roaming"

He knows where to find it, he's saying its turning its self off...

Update: after talking to verizon and being on hold multiple times one of thoes times was so the rep could call motorola they have no idea why its happening. They sent me a new phone which I doubt fixes the issue. But promisied to call me to follow up. As soon as I get the new phone and it happends again I'll give them a call to figure it out.

I'll keep you posted.

I also doubt a new phone will fix the issue. I look forward to your update. Thank you.

It seems VZ and Motorola have no clue about this phone. I've been on the phone with one of them almost every day since I got the thing. No one I've talked to has been trained on the phone, most of them have never even touched it.

Any chance you are using the task manager to kill something the data roaming service needs?

In my experience (with GB roms on my D1) and from what I have read, task killers are no longer needed in GB... So I have not installed one. I wish it were that simple, but it seems to be related to when it loses signal. Every time it does that, it turns off the data roaming.

Motorla thought it would be a good idea to include one they wrote. Totally not needed but was just a thought.

Good point... it would be pretty ironic if their own task killer was the issue.

I have got the replacement phone but wont be 'out in the sticks' for a few days.

I managed to recreate the problem on my new new D3, either loss of service in an extended network area or 2 mins or so in what seems like a select few extended network areas and the data roaming would turn its self off. I say select few because in some extended network areas data worked great. So I think its a software bug, might be intentional on verizon's part.
