Control phone from computer

I know there was an old tool that did this, but this was awhile ago and I'm not sure if it still works. Anyone know of one that's much smoother? I would really love to have a window up with my phone being controllable on the computer (without wifi or any VNC related stuff -- I'd like to connect and control the phone via USB).

I used airdroid for a while. Its a little buggy but when it does work its great. You will need to have your droid hooked up to your wifi router in order for it to work.

What would be great is if someone could figure out a way to get Webtop to run via a connection to a laptop in the way it runs when connected to the lapdock. It allows full access to and control over the phone, including the ability to make/receive calls and texts, with an interface designed to work on a laptop-style device. Personally, I would love to be able to view/respond to texts while I have my laptop out in meetings and make it seem like I'm just taking notes. :)

Have not seen another app that will let you do what you are asking with a usb cable. All the ones i have seen only let you sync data. Sorry. If i come across one ill post an update.

Yeah, that's what I'm wanting to do. I sometimes don't feel like picking my phone up every minute and writing a large text. I'd much prefer to type it all :)

No problem and thanks!

Unless someone is able to do this, I'm probably going to end up getting a lapdock at some point. With the tablet-style interface that Webtop 3.0 has in the ICS update, I can see it being a much more useful accessory. My Asus Transformer TF300 is immensely useful with the keyboard dock, and after the ICS update, the lapdocks will essentially offer the same experience (minus the touchscreen, but adding a 3G/4G internet connection along with the ability to do calls and texts).

It's far from what we're looking for, but I've been giving Mighty Text a spin, and it works very well for sending/receiving texts through your phone via a computer. It works via the internet, so there's no need to connect to a local network like with AirDroid. Of course, it doesn't give you the control that AirDroid does. In fact, it doesn't give any control. But at least it will let me send/receive text messages during a meeting without using my phone. :)

Hmm, interesting. This sounds like something that might fit my expectations exactly. Thanks. I'm going to take a look at this pretty soon.

It works very, very well. I'm actually getting notifications on my computer before I do on my phone for received messages.
