How many contacts can a droid x hold?

I believe its limited to the memory size. I know of people that have well over 700 contacts.

Where are my contacts located in ics. When i go to my phone, only recent favorites and dialer comes up. I don't want to hit menu and select search every time i want to make a call. Help please
