Confused: Gingerbread 2.3 & Kernel's

Ok, first excuse me for my stupidity, for I am learning like the rest of us. I am currently running Gingerbread 2.3 on my rooted Droid2. I also have Droid Overclock by JRummy16. Now, what Kernel's are compatible with the information I provided. And now for my stupidity question, is Gingerbread a ROM or not a ROM, and if it's not, then what ROM and Kernel are happy with Gingerbread? Thank you.

Courtesy of the locked bootloader, the kernel for the droid 2 cannot be changed like it can on most rooted phones (such as the d1). There is a gingerbread leak which came from p3droid which leaked from motorola. There are also custom roms built off of this leak...which is what zombiestomped is based off of.

Yea our d2 has a locked boot loader as pat said so u can't change the kernel around.....but gingerbad is just like a rom there hasn't been much besides liberty that works with it...I havnt looked in a few days but that's still how it is I'm pretty sure
