Compass (Circle With Cross) Icon?

At the top, along with the battery and a few other items, I see a compass icon. I assume that it is for GPS, but I have GPS turned off. Any idea what this is, and why it's there?

it is your location icon. It tells you that apps will use your location.

Can't seem to turn it off

I can't seem to turn off the location icon. I unchecked all the locations services in my settings menu (except E911) and the icon's still there. No idea what would be causing it. Any ideas?

The icon WILL be there...but the ))) to the right won't show up if you have GPS turned off. Relax...

Just curious

I just think it's strange, because on the last Incredible I owned (on a trial basis) the thing completely went away after I turned off the options in the settings menu.

It's obviously not something to get wound up about but I'm one of those people who likes to have mysteries solved.
