Interested to find out how much the components in your Droid 2 end up costing Motorola? CNN Tech Talk / Money has the break down from an 'expert' on the subject.

There is no way for us to embed the video but you can check it out by following this link: What the Droid 2 really costs - Video - Technology

Many of the components between the original Droid (Droid 1) and the Droid 2 are shared so that should help them with economies of scale.

Hmmm. Still about $169 for parts + 2 years of contract payments and a good part of my life (or so my wife says).

Yeah, still worth it for either the D1 or D2.

Hopefully this will quash the "But the Droid X has the same guts as the Droid 2! Those #$Q%@#$#@#$ are just delaying the 2.2 update for the X so people will buy the Droid 2!" BS.

What am I saying? People would have to read before posting inane opinions.

This rant brought to you by the Campaign to Make People Research and Think Before Posting. :)

It's always nice to have information like this, it makes spending the $199.99 on a new device seem a bit more reasonable, Thanks JohnDroid for posting this, and for what you do for this great Forum :icon_cool:

Was it necessary to demonstrate the screen section with Justin Bieber getting hit in the head with a water bottle?

Perhaps I have had one too many beers this evening, but this is newsworthy from CNN's tech standpoint? I mean, what is the point? This person obviously draws some kind of paycheck for this reporting. Whoda thunk that a manufacturer would try to capitalize on some economy of similar components. Breaking news, it has been reported that some of the folks who work on the Droid X assemby line actually work to also assemble the Droid 2. Thanks John, for reinforcing why some news outlets are stuggling, while others seem to be doing so well. And more importantly, why we all get our Droid news here.

On a serious note, I am more excited to see that member number one here hails from the same state as I. And all this time I thought I was the only New Mexico member. It's tough being told that updates will roll out for the next week, only to find that I get my notification for upgrade 3 weeks later. Some states get no respect..........
