Loose port is not covered by verizon warranty - unless it came like that right out of the box. It usually stems from users carelessly push-pulling on their charge cables...especially when using the car chargers.

What you stated above is both true and false...
If a device has a known issue with a weak charging port, is within the warranty period (1 year unless customer has extended warranty), and otherwise does not appear to be physically damaged, we will replace it.
You are 100% correct though in your statement that using the device while on the charger, in particular the car charger as it puts pressure on the ports 'chip' when handling the phone while connected and is apt to cause it to get loose.
Just so you all know - At the end of this month there is to be a policy change regarding the warranty process with VZW:
A little less than a year ago the powers that be at VZW instructed those of us on the front lines to more strictly inspect devices for things that are considered to void the warranty which were overlooked in the past, that being things like scratches on the sides, back, and screen (some of you may have experienced this in a store)...before we could issue or order a replacement for a customer, we had to have a manager inspect said device and in writing both of us notate why the replacement was granted.
On April 1st it will get even stricter...
(1) we in the stores will no longer have any replacements in the stores and
(2) if the customer wants us to order a replacement rather than go through insurance (if they have it), the determination as to whether the device is warrantable will be made where the 'defective' device is sent (not sure if that is to VZW or the manufacturer) and not at all by us in the store, and if said device is determined to be abused /damaged and not a manufacturers defect, the customer's account will be billed up to $200 depending on the type of device.
Of course the customer will have documentation detailing this possibility of charges before they choose to send off the 'defective' device, so the charges won't just appear out of nowhere, but I think it will dictate that people take better care of their devices and/or give more consideration to carrying insurance on their line.
