Changing roms

I am currently rooted and running apex but am currently interested in other roms as im reading I see instructions to wipe data and cache before installing or wipe data/factory reset. I feel like these are two completely different methods. Maybe I don't quite understand how root works, if I factory reset wont I lose root? I wiped data and cache to install apex, just wondering which method is better or if they are the same.

i always wipe both.

you can never be too safe...

and a factory reset does not make you lose root. factory reset clears the user data... the root files are in the system partition

yep... as long as you dont FORMAT anything (i believe that is in the "mounts and storage" menu) you should be fine.

i accidently formatted my system once, and it didnt boot. lol.

so stick with the wipes
