Cant delete Texts

I am trying to clean up some of my longer threads of text messages.

For instance, like with my wife, I have a string of several hundreds of text messages. I use Handcent. I go through the procedure to delete the string of messages, and it just locks up, and eventually gives me a force close option.

I even went to my standard stock text messaging app and tried to delete it there, and the same thing happened. Cant delete. Any advice?

Now, I am not even able to get handcent to open???
