on the market, free, and SUPER customizable... takes a while to learn all the settings, but once you got it it looks amazing... (just remember to turn off your notifications on the stock messaging app)
I'm sorry I don't mean to sound dumb but what is the stock messaging app? I am new at this if you can tell. There are just so many things to learn about this phone. I have one more question for you if you are able to answer this. When i call someone, my cheek hits the touch screen and i either lose the person or it dials numbers, is there something I can do for that?

No biggie, the stock messaging app is the app called 'Messaging' with a green talk bubble.
As far as cheek ending, a few people have had problems with the proximity sensor (which detects when the phone is near your face and disables the touch screen) acting up with their hair and sideburns. If this doesnt apply to you, then it's also entirely possible that the proximity sensor is malfunctioning. I personally have never had a cheek ending problem, but I'm clean shaven with almost no hair on my head.
by saying stock messaging app, i mean the one that comes with the phone, the icon is a green bubble. after learning how to set up Handcent go back to your stock app (the green bubble) and hit settings, then turn off notifications... if you dont for every text youll get notified twice... As far as learning, we all do... just keep reading on and youtube stuff to learn.
Oh, and when you place a call and put the phone to your head, there is a light sensor that should "shut off" your screen while its against your head... this prevents your face from using the touch screen. When you bring it away the screen comes back on. Keep learning buddy..
***EDIT - Haha, while I was typing someone else wrote the same thing haha... anyway enjoy!
Yes, HandcentSMS is what you want. Handcent Keyboard apps do just that, change the keyboard within Handcent. Handcent SMS will use the default keyboard unless you have a Keyboard app installed.
KWMayo has a good description. I would add that it is to change the base applications or add applications to enhance the useability and customization. Among these 'hacks' are overclocking (making it run faster), changing notifcations, turning on or off lights, enhancing dialers, adding home screens, making complete backup solutions, wireless wifi tethering, etc.
