can you attach droid x to external monitor?

I just got a droid x. Is there a way to attach my driod x to my flat panel monitor? Thought this would be a nice way to explore my droid while having the advantages of a large screen.

I would think you could, there is a HDMI output on the phone. But i don't know if you can use the phone and see it on the screen, I just figured it was for video.
