Can I Use Google Voice With Droid X

I currently have an iPhone and I'm looking at switching over to Droid. I'm a big fan of all things Google, and I really don't like what a status symbol iPhone is becoming. One of my biggest expectations is that I can integrate Google Voice with my phone. I'm looking at the Droid X only because it's the latest and greatest, but I'd go with any model that can get the job done if the X can't. I'm not afraid of "hacking" or "modding" whatever I have to in order to make it happen. I love Google Voice but I hate making outbound calls, having to dial into my Google Voice number then dial the number I want to call. I'm hoping there's an app that lets me just dial my desired number and automates the rest of the process. I was just wondering if anyone knows if this is possible and how good the app is.

You can use GV with any phone...

Yes, you can. Download the free Google Voice app off the market place and when you bring up the Dialer and put in a number, press call it will ask you to place the call via the Dialer or Google Voice. Same with text messages.

You can also set your google voice up to be the default out-going call device. Doing this makes google voice transparent. You just dial whatever number you want and it's automatically connected through gv.

GV on DroidX

I have the DroidX and GV. It took Google 24 hours to get my call forwarding set up, but it all works as expected now.

Pretty sure he's used to having to use HTML 5 version of it because Apple blocked the app.

Tamm - You've already installed gv to your droid. Create an icon on your home screen:

ADD TO HOME SCREEN > SHORTCUTS > TOGGLE GOOGLE VOICE

That will give you a real quick way to toggle your calls to
1. Use Google Voice to make ALL calls
2. Do not use Google voice to make any calls
3. Only use Google Voice for International calls
4. Ask Every time I call

My question to this is if there is a way for me to make google voice calls via wi-fi at my house instead of using cell phone minutes. This would be awesome.

I actually just installed GV and made a call out using it on my D1 it was very transparent (I currently have it set up to ask me everytime I want to make an outgoing call.) I wonder what the pitfalls of GV is though. I was thinking of going to Verizon Prepaid 30 a month data and just use GV for calls and Texts. Anyone currently doing something similar?

GV still uses phone minutes not wi-fi so don't see what you're gaining by it other than other GV features like switching phones and the like. Yes you would save on text messages though.
